Quin Blanding instantly became a top prospect for the 2018 NFL Draft after deciding to return to school last offseason.
Quin Blanding enters the 2017 season as one of the top safeties in the country after announcing his intent to return to Virginia for his senior season. Blanding must not have gotten the news he wanted from the College Football Advisory Committee so he is planning on using his final year of eligibility to improve his stock. His size combined with his nose for the football propels him into the second round of the draft heading into this year.
Blanding is already on the top ten list of all time tackle leaders for Virginia and he has a whole year to add to those numbers. He has averaged 10 tackles a game every year for the Cavaliers and that has to be what NFL scouts are impressed by the most. He also has shown up during big games and arguably his best performance of the year came against then fifth ranked Louisville where he had eight tackles and an interception while also disrupting two more passes.
His ability to cover can be considered a liability due to his lack of elite speed. He projects as a run stuffing hybrid linebacker at the next level and perhaps could improve his stock enough to crack the first round but more than likely he will remain a second round talent.
