Scouting Report: Cameron Sutton

Tennessee
Cornerback #23
Senior, 5’11” 186

Cameron Sutton is a very talented cornerback who has the ability to follow the best wide receiver for the duration of the game. He is an all-around corner with great man and zone coverage ability as well as run support. Here are some scouting notes based on Sutton’s game film.

  • Excellent backpedal
  • Can play man and zone coverage
  • Excels in press coverage
  • Needs to improve tackling
  • Able to play the ball in the air
  • Extra punt return ability
  • Struggles to get off blocks
  • Great coverage speed
  • Fluid hip movement

Sutton is an athletic corner who is a ball hawk and knows how to high point a football in the air. He does need some work to polish his game. Sutton needs to improve his tackling and needs to improve his strength. At times he looks stiff or uncomfortable in off man coverage but excels in press coverage.

Sutton is a thin, average height corner who plays much bigger than his size. He does not lack confidence and will not back down from covering a talented wide receiver. Sutton was able to be a shutdown corner in the SEC, which is no easy feat, and his talent should translate well to the next level.

Sutton’s injured ankle will probably hurt his draft stock since he was only able to play a few games this season. He also has a thin frame which may have some teams worried.

Round Value: 2

Sutton needs to improve in a few areas as well as show his ankle is healed before he could be considered for a higher pick.

NFL Comparison: Kyle Fuller
